International shipments leaving the United States require certain documentation before cargo can legally depart the country. One of the most important requirements is the AES filing (Automated Export System filing),

When preparing your shipment to leave the United States, there are several important export requirements that help ensure your cargo can legally depart the country without unnecessary delays. Much of the information we request from you is needed for the AES filing (Automated Export System filing), which is submitted electronically to the U.S. government by the freight forwarders we work with.

Here are some of the most common requirements you may be asked to provide:

  • EIN Number (for many shipments over $2,500)
In general, shipments valued over $2,500 under a single export category require an EIN (Employer Identification Number). Your EIN is used in the AES filing to identify the exporter of the shipment.
  • Power of Attorney (POA)
Gives us the legal authority to handle your shipment for you.
  • Passport Copy
A copy of your passport is commonly required to verify the identity of the shipper and support the export documentation process.
  • Full USA Address
Your complete U.S. address is included as part of the export filing information submitted to the government.
  • Shipment Information and Declared Values
General descriptions of what you are shipping, along with declared values, are also used for export reporting and customs compliance purposes.

The AES filing itself is typically handled by our freight forwarders, coordinating the export side of the shipment. Our role is to help gather the required information and coordinate the process as smoothly as possible for you.

Providing complete and accurate information early can help avoid consolidation or shipping delays, shipment holds, or unwanted storage fees.

Please note that export regulations and filing requirements are subject to change without notice.
