A favorite rug can make a new home in Israel feel familiar right away. If you’re bringing one with your shipment, here’s a simple way to understand the tax.
The calculation uses the rug’s declared value plus its share of the shipping cost to Israel. That shipping cost is not necessarily the price on your Aliyah Lift invoice.
For example, say your rug is valued at $150, and the cost to ship 25 items to Israel is $650:
- The rug’s share of shipping: $650 ÷ 25 = $26
- Value used for tax: $150 + $26 = $176
- VAT at 18%: $176 × 18% = $31.68
In this example, the VAT on the rug would be $31.68.
The cost of shipping is not your cost, but the actual cost of shipping to the port.
