Many people making Aliyah want to include favorite foods, wine, or specialty items in their shipment to Israel. While this is often possible, it is very important to understand the limits and regulations before packing these items.

In general, personal imports to Israel are allowed up to a combined total of 15kg of foodstuff and beverages together — not 15kg of food plus additional beverages. This allowance applies regardless of status.

For Olim Hadashim and Toshavim Hozrim, approved food items within the allowance are generally exempt from taxes. However, alcohol is not exempt from taxes at all and may involve additional charges.

There are also important rules regarding wine and alcoholic beverages. Up to 15 bottles may usually be shipped without requiring a special import permit, but no more than 5 bottles can be from the same label or type. Once you exceed these limits, an import permit from the Ministry of Health and/or Wine Institute may be required.

Unfortunately, shipments above the allowance can become complicated very quickly. Additional permits, long handling times, storage fees, and even laboratory testing of samples may be required. In many cases, it simply is not recommended to send quantities beyond the allowed limits.

It is also important to understand that customs policies, import procedures, and regulations can change periodically and sometimes without advance notice. Final decisions are always made by the relevant Israeli authorities at the time of importation.

We understand these rules can feel confusing, especially during the stress of preparing for an international move. That is why we encourage customers to ask questions before packing food or alcohol into their shipment.

A quick email, WhatsApp message, phone call, or Clarity Call can help prevent delays, unexpected costs, or customs complications later. Our goal is to help your move to Israel go as smoothly and stress-free as possible.
