Marine Insurance
Two Types of Marine Insurance
We offer two types of marine insurance — All Risk and Total Loss (aka Limited Liability) — as explained below.
All Risk Marine Insurance
All Risk insurance is only available when shipments have been professionally packed by an Aliyah Lift Shipping agent or an approved agent.
Household goods should be insured at the replacement value in Israel.
The fragile to non-fragile ratio cannot exceed 10% of the value. For example, a $10,000 policy cannot have more than $1000 of fragile items.
Fine art objects, paintings, and musical instruments cannot be insured for more than $1000 each without a qualified appraisal.
All Risk insurance allows a claim to be filed for damaged, broken and/or missing items.
There is a $250 deductible.
Total Loss Marine Insurance
Total Loss insurance is available for full-packed and self-packed shipments and covers the following conditions:
Loss of or damage to the subject-matter insured reasonably attributable to fire or explosion; vessel or craft being stranded, grounded, sunk or capsized; overturning or derailment of land conveyance; collision or contact of vessel craft or conveyance with any external object other than water; discharge of cargo at a port of distress. Loss of or damage to the subject-matter insured caused by General Average sacrifice; jettison.
Acts of piracy are not covered in Total Loss insurance.
There is no deductible with a Total Loss claim.
Marine Insurance Coverage
Insurance applications must be completed 2 Israeli working days before the pick up date.
Marine insurance policies cover the following time periods:
-
-
- 28 days from the pick up or loading date.
- The period of time it’s on the ocean.
- 30 days from when the vessel arrives at the destination port.
-
An insurance extension is required if your shipment is in storage longer than 28 days.
You have 30 days from the date of delivery to initiate a claim.
Inherent Risks in Shipping
Like all things in life, there are risks in shipping. Although our crews are excellent items can be broken or boxes misrouted.
Approximately 3000 containers are lost at sea per year. That seems like a lot but there are 2,000,000+ containers in circulation.
Humans are fallible — and insurance is available for your protection.
