Declutter Your Home the KonMari Way

View Post

If you are not familiar with Marie Kondo and her KonMari method of decluttering, then now is the time!

In Marie Kondo’s Netflix show “Tidying Up with Marie Kondo” she showcases families with hoarding or clutter issues and teaches them, step-by-step, the KonMari way to declutter and take control of their spaces.  The results are astounding and people seem much happier.

Kondo’s book, The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up: The Japanese Art of Decluttering and Organizing is hugely popular with over 13,000 reviews on Amazon and a 4.5-star rating.

The process is very simple.  You evaluate your household goods [in the following order : clothes > books > papers > miscellaneous (kitchen, bathroom, garage/basement, etc.) > sentimental items], item-by-item, and determine if the item “sparks joy” in you, or if it’s wanted to your life going forward.  Only the joy-sparked items are kept and the rest are given or thrown away.

When making aliyah the “joy-sparking” system should be extended to furniture as well.
